OUR STORY
Calvary: The Hill was started by Pastor Justin Thomas as a prayer meeting in a studio apartment on Capitol Hill in the summer of 2010. Since then we have met in living rooms, bars, dance studios, and warehouses to worship Jesus, learn about his grace through studying the Bible, love one another and serve our neighbors.
We meet in a 100+ year old church building (that we purchased from the German United Church of Christ in 2020) located on the back side of Cal Anderson Park every Sunday at 10 am, and we also gather in smaller groups throughout the week. In 2022, Pastor Nick Taylor stepped in as Lead Pastor when Justin moved to Southern California to be president of Calvary Chapel Bible College.
We offer a free Community Lunch every Sunday at 12:30 pm at the Parsonage house next to the church. All are welcome to join us for this free lunch!
Calvary: The Hill is an elder-led, congregationally-ruled, non-denominational, Protestant church, and is part of the Calvary Global Network (CGN.org).
OUR MISSION, VISION, AND VALUES
Mission (What God Is Doing):
Renewing all things in Jesus Christ (Titus 2:11-14)
We’re about what God is about.
Vision (What We Are Doing):
Forming a family of Spirit-filled disciples of Jesus who are committed to Capitol Hill in truth and love (Matthew 28:16-20 and Ephesians 4:11-16)
This is the lens through which we see all that we do. Jesus is the only one who can rightly embrace both truth and love (John 1:17). We want to follow his lead in loving Capitol Hill.
Values (How We're Doing It):
Grounded in God's Word
Attuned to God's Spirit
A loving family
